Who We Are
Nutrition Education & Community Outreach (NECO)
We are a student lead advocacy group that primarily serves the Food & Human Nutritional Sciences students at the University of Manitoba. We offer knowledge, support, and opportunities to the greater University of Manitoba and Winnipeg communities.
Our Mission
Advocate. Engage. Inspire.
We engage with students & community members to promote food & nutrition education through advocacy, and to improve access to educational resources.
We prioritize professional development opportunities for Food & Human Nutritional Sciences students in order to prepare them for various career pursuits.
Our Vision
Community. Culture. Literacy
We aspire to foster a culture that values food & nutrition literacy, starting with the University of Manitoba. We strive to create a mindful community filled with food-literate & food-secure students.
NECO correspondence centers around nutrition and food-related issues of interest and significance to Food and Human Nutrition Science (FHNS) students through UM student email, NECO social media, and website. Any requests to distribute materials such as blog posts, recommended readings, and resources are subject to approval by the NECO Co-Presidents and the Communications Committee.
Land Acknowledgement
The University of Manitoba campuses, where we work, study and play, are located on the lands of Anishinaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene Peoples, and on the homeland of the Métis Nation. We acknowledge the harms and mistakes of the past, and we dedicate ourselves to move forward in partnership with Indigenous communities in a spirit of reconciliation and collaboration.
