Who are we?

Nutrition Education and Community Outreach (NECO) is a student advocacy group that chiefly serves the Food and Human Nutritional Sciences students at the University of Manitoba, and offers knowledge, information and support to the greater University of Manitoba and Winnipeg communities.

MISSION

NECO's mission is to engage students and community members in the promotion of food and nutrition education through advocacy and improving access to educational materials. In addition, NECO prioritizes professional development opportunities to Food and Human Nutritional Sciences students in order to prepare them for careers in the fields of Food and Human Nutritional Sciences.

VISION

Our vision is to foster a culture that values food and nutrition literacy at the University of Manitoba and to see a more food literate, food-secure student body.

NECO correspondence centers around nutrition and food-related issues of interest and significance to Food and Human Nutrition Science (FHNS) students through UM student email, NECO social media, and website. Any requests to distribute materials such as blog posts, recommended readings, and resources are subject to approval by the NECO Co-Presidents and the Communications Committee.

Land Acknowledgement

The University of Manitoba campuses, where we work, study and play, are located on the lands of Anishinaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene Peoples, and on the homeland of the Métis Nation. We acknowledge the harms and mistakes of the past, and we dedicate ourselves to move forward in partnership with Indigenous communities in a spirit of reconciliation and collaboration.
